One of the weirdest, fun events to be held annually is the Thoona 'Wheelie Bin' Championships. The use of modified plastic bins to race down the main street has been ongoing annually for many years.

The challenge is to race down the main street against a stopwatch. Some people go to great lengths to make their speed machine as fast as possible. Others put more effort into the paint and decoration of their vehicles.

The event in the tiny town with a shop, a pub and a school sees the "population" grow by thousands. It is highly competitive and a favourite with the kids.

This year's races will be held on March 18, starting at noon. There will be a market to kick things off, starting at 9 am. Police and emergency services will be giving demonstrations. There will also be sheep shearing, jumping castle, face painting and more

Best to book a table if you want a meal at the Hotel on 03 5765 2224.
