In what is an example of "political correctness gone mad" Vic Roads have approved a 12 month trial that aims to create an equal number of female and male walking signs.

The committee of Melbourne is behind the idea and their CEO Marine Letts has been quoted as saying "It's the idea of our future focus group - which is a bunch of younger people who, I think, are pretty well attune to the temper of the time."  Given the reaction from Australian's this morning it is possible that couldn't be further from the truth.

Legislation will need to be changed and there are questions as to whether there was a conflict of interest, given the company sponsoring the trial would likely receive a financial benefit from the replacement of the signs if the trial is deemed a success.
