As 2015 draws to a close, it is a time to reflect on the year and look forward to 2016.

There have been many highlights in 2015 including:

  • The election of our seventh Councillor, Cr Chris Hazelman, who replaced Michael Polan.
  • The appointment of CEO Peter Harriott, who commences in January.
  • The progression of the Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct project
  • Continuing to advocate for important infrastructure projects on behalf of our community, including regular meetings with State, opposition and Federal Government representatives
  • The Watts Working Better Project being named the winner of the prestigious Premier’s Sustainability Awards in the Built Environment category
  • The Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton winning the 2015 Cultural Heritage awards category and being Highly Commended in the Protection of Environment category at the Keep Victoria Beautiful Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities awards
  • Council winning an award at the Annual Victorian Aboriginal Education Association’s (VAEAI) Wurreker Awards
  • Continuing to position our region as a major sporting events destination and being named as host of a range of significant state and national events

THE festive season is that special time of year when family, friends and community come together to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company.  It is a period of goodwill and deep religious significance and is celebrated in a diverse range of ways.

It is a time when many pause to reflect on the year just passed and set goals for the year ahead. A time of reunion when family members often travel long distances to return home for their families traditional Christmas. It is a time also to consider those in our community who are disadvantaged, ill or experiencing hardship and how we can provide assistance and support during the Christmas period.

We wish you all a safe and merry Christmas and happy new year. We look forward to working with you as we strive to Make Shepparton Greater in 2016.
