Australian Mashup Wizard Nailing it on YouTube

Australian Mashup Wizard Nailing it on YouTube

My mate, Dave Miller, put me on to Wax Audio — MashupsTom Compagnoni, who I've figured  out is a talented video producer during his day job at The Huffington Post.  At night he makes audio mashups that have massive followings as Wax Audio on YouTube.  He has produced a number of clubbing albums since 2004.  If you listen to the lyrics of some of his early material it is highly political.  But most recently he has become notorious for creating amazing mashaps that attract millions of views on YouTube.

A mashup (also mesh, mash up, mash-up, blend, bootleg and b*stard pop/rock) is a song or composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another.  To the extent that such works are "transformative" of original content, they may find protection from copyright claims under the "fair use" doctrine of copyright law.

Nobody is safe.  He has mashed AC/DC, Eagles, Madonna, Led Zep, Judas Priest, Sabbath, Metallica, Bryan Adams, Lady Gaga, Pink Floyd and many more.

His latest featured track is called "A Hotel Full of Secrets".  It is a mashup of the Eagles "Hotel California" and early Pink Floyd performing "A Saucerful of Secrets".  His latest offering was a mashup of Madonna's "Justify" with Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love".  Jimmy Page, guitarist of Zepellin, was so taken by the track he tweeted it to Madonna on her birthday.  Unfortunately I cannot post that video here due to copyright reasons, however if you run a US VPN you can see it on Wax Audio's You Tube account.

I don't know if one should call this an art form but it is very clever indeed.  In this example below, Tom has put AC/DC's Bonn Scott together with Van Halen's flamboyant David Lee Roth.
